Facebook Page Timeline Setup Tutorial

Today’s task in the Facebook Page Timeline Setup Tutorial is one that you might have already done, but if not now is the time to do it! The task is to add a Like Box to your company website. This functionality hasn’t really changed with the new Timeline design, but it is even more important to add this button to your site along with an appeal for people to like your page, since this is discouraged in the new Timeline design and restrictions.

What is a Like Box?

A Like Box is a widget that allows people to Like your page from anywhere you put the code, not just directly from your page on Facebook. This helps you to gather more likes and engage people when they visit your website or other web property you control. Depending on the options you choose, it will look something like this on your site:

How Do I Add the Like Box to my Website?

To get the code for the Like Box, click here and add your Facebook page URL and then choose your options. This will generate the code that you will need to put on your website. From there, just copy and paste the code into your website where you would like the Like Box to appear. Depending on your skill level, you may need to get your website administrator to do this, but it should be a simple task.

I like to have the Like Box in the sidebar or header of the website, so that it is in the same place no matter what page of the website you are on. You can see my Like Box over to the right at the toward the top of the sidebar.

Since you are not allowed to directly ask people to like your page on the Timeline cover photo, you should add some text surrounding your Like Box on your website. Something to the affect of: “Click Like to be the first to know about our events” or “Click Like for discounts and specials”. Don’t just say “Click Like”…people aren’t robots. Make sure you give them a reason!
