The Story of Outspective: How I Lost My Job & Found My Place

You might have seen or heard me gushing about something called Outspective for the past month or so, and I’m excited to officially be able to explain it to you!

In April 2012, I had been working with a digital marketing agency for over 2 years when that agency merged with another company. It was then that I was introduced to 2 phenomenal new team members: Dan Myer and Justin Brackett. While working together through the merge, we quickly realized that the high caliber talent, complimentary skills, and chemistry of our team was second to none. We understood that we had the potential to be a world class provider of digital marketing.

Throughout our time at that agency, we pushed hard for that potential to be realized. We advocated for more forward thinking with our processes, for quality of service to be improved for our clients, and for more ethical business practices to be established. Unfortunately, due to poor leadership & mismanagement on the executive level, the team was dissolved in October of 2012.

Though we all of the sudden found ourselves unemployed, we never skipped a beat. The very next day we were on a call talking about a business plan for a new agency, and went straight to work on creating what is now Outspective. The name Outspective was chosen because we provide businesses with an all encompassing outside perspective on how they look online, and identify opportunities to improve their bottom line.

Dan Myer (www.danielmyer.com) is our Creative lead and an extremely gifted artist & graphic designer. My jaw always drops when I open a new design he’s sent me, and I am always excited about what he’s going to create next! Dan did all of the design & graphics for my personal website that you’re on now. See what I mean? The man is sickly talented. Dan’s wife, Gayla, is a brilliant web developer who worked along side Dan to develop our sites & will continue to work on our future projects. Dan & Gayla and their children live in the Las Vegas, NV area where they are also involved in ministry.

Justin Bracket (www.justinthesouth.com) is our Team lead and client best friend. Justin is an incredible leader, which means a lot coming from someone who is very difficult to lead! He keeps everyone on task, keeps all of our clients happy, and shows everyone so much respect and admiration in the process. He is definitely the Outspective glue. Justin is also a great writer and speaker, and you’ll see lots of his blogs on the site. Justin lives in Asheville, NC with his wife and two kids.

My role will be Social lead, which means managing all social media marketing for clients. I am so in love with what I do because I believe social media tools have taken the advantage away from the company with the most money, and given it to the company’s that are the most honest and caring. Social media has changed marketing, now it’s changing the way we do business, and I think it has the possibility of changing our local and national economy as well.

Me and the team are all working odd jobs, living off of hot dogs and pasta every night, waking up in 50 degree houses to keep the heat off, working 14 hour days, and taking advantage of every opportunity that comes our way. What’s amazing about this team is that not one person even thought about looking for full time work somewhere else. We all believe to our core that God has a plan for us as a team, and there is a reason we were brought together.

Outspective is not just a flash in the pan agency. This is an agency that will be around 20-30 years down the road, and we are excited about what digital marketing will look like that far in the future. This is also not a company that just wants to “make money off of the internet.” We are good people, we are good at what we do, and we can provide real solutions for companies that understand how important the internet is to their business.
